RENA MCCARTHY MULLINS

    POUND, VA – Rena Ilene McCarthy Mullins, 72, passed Sunday, May 24, 2026 from the Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, TN.

   She graduated as Valedictorian of Pound High School in 1972. 

   She was employed with Pound Hardware and Furniture Company for more than 20 years and later retired from Red Onion State Prison. 

   Rena enjoyed flower gardening, homemaking and reading.

   Rena was preceded in death by her son, Jamie Mullins, her father, David Bennie McCarthy; a sister, Carolyn Reeves and her brother, Joe McCarthy.

   Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Julia Mae McCarthy and her sister, Debra Hobbs both of Pound, VA. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

   Private graveside services were conducted at 2:30 Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Rena was laid to rest in the Thurston Hubbard Cemetery-Pound, VA

  The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Rena’s caregivers; Shirley Burke, Linda Francis and the Ballad Hospice staff.
