VAUGHN PAUL GRIZZLE, JR.

April 12, 2024

Vaughn Paul Grizzle Jr. 80, of Parrottsville, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on April 05,

2024, while at home with Lucy, his beagle.

Paul will be missed by his wife of 37 years Linda Grizzle of Parrottsville, TN, Elizabeth Grizzle of Melbourne FL, former wife, and mother of their 3 children: Dr. Lisa Woodley and husband Bill of Cary, NC. Paula Longcore (deceased) and husband Joe of Titusville, FL, Vaughn Paul Grizzle III and his wife Tracy of Mechanicsville, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Paul was born on January 28, 1944, to Sophia (Bradley) and Vaughn Paul Grizzle Sr. in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was the first of their five children: Andrew, Mary, Bonnie, and Joe(deceased). Paul joined the United States Army at the age of 15 on November 12, 1959, and was

Honorably discharged on July 22, 1965. Upon discharge from the United States Army Paul joined the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged on August 8, 1975. During those 10 years while Paul was in the Army Reserves, he started working construction in Washington DC, where he met Elizabeth and started their family, moving to Coeburn, VA, then to Bryan, Ohio. Lifelong friends were made while drinking coffee at Lester’s Diner, camping, motorcycle riding, and traveling in a 1976 custom painted Mickey Mouse van. Paul enjoyed collecting and trading cars, always searching for the perfect 56 Ford.

Weather in Ohio can be extremely cold and snow drifts up to the roof of the houses is what led Paul to Florida to interview and accept a job at Documentation, moving the family to the land of sunshine in 1977.

Paul and Linda met at the Clock restaurant over a cup of coffee, and married in 1987 settling in West Melbourne, Florida. In 1999 moved to Parrottsville, Tennessee returning to his mountain roots to drink coffee from his Happy Top porch and enjoy the mountain view with their dogs.

Paul was many things to many people, if you met him, you didn’t forget him, with those baby blue eyes, and his irresistible smile. Paul loved his country and believed in flying Old Glory. He loved and was so proud of his three children, his nine grandchildren and his seven great grandchildren. Paul was a man of character, he showed up and did what he said he was going to do. Paul was extremely generous with his time and his money. Paul believed in God, he prayed every night, he believed in family, and he believed in working hard to achieve your goals.

The departure of Vaughn Paul Grizzle Jr. leaves his loved ones adrift with their loss and grief for this man whom they loved. Paul would say many times, “Linda, change is a fact, good or bad, so you must learn to be adaptable to the change and carry on.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 4301, 1151 Park Ave NE, Norton, VA 24273.
